After working several years in executive roles within HR, I currently run CultureStrategy, a 7-figure diversity training and communication coaching company in DC.

BUT, this success took me years of overcoming a lot of what was holding me back in expressing my confidence, voice, and unique leadership capabilities. Much of this was tied to my being “different” as a minority. 

Believe it or not, growing up, I was painfully shy and socially anxious. I was known in school as “the girl who never talks.” I used to hide in the bathroom when I would have to give a presentation. And I even embarassingly got caught and sent to the Principal’s office a few times!

With a lot of deep work on my mindset through studying neuroscience in college, and then actually placing myself in challenging situations, I discovered an inborn capability for communication I never knew I had. 

I was shocked when in the beginning people told me “I’m a natural,” “exceptionally engaging,” and “articulate.” Now when I tell people my stories from childhood, they don’t believe me. 

Our Human Potential for Growth and Transformation

Why do I share this? Well, I believe strongly in the deep potential we each have as human beings to overcome all of our obstacles. Yes, I believe we are always in flux – constantly growing and changing. We can become anyone we want to be if we put our minds to it. 

Since working in the professional world, I’ve found that communication is a HUGE gap that often goes unaddressed. As a result, people are unable to motivate their teams fully or progress to higher levels in their own careers – in other words, they are unable to fulfill their full potential. 

That’s why I take so much passion in the work that I do in communication skills coaching and training. I’ve worked with amazingly intelligent, diverse, and insightful leaders who were unable to engage their audiences during presentations or further their careers, and helped them completely transform how they present themselves.
